Roof Ladders
Roof ladders are very much what they say on the tin – ladders designed to make working on a roof safe and convenient. The defining feature of a roof ladder is its hooked top - the ridge hooks are specifically designed to be attached to the edge of a roof, giving you added safety and stability while you're working.
Roof ladders give you the accessibility to navigate up and down a roof safely, and are commonly used by roofers and TV aerial/satellite installers. When using a roof access ladder, it’s essential to make sure that you have set up your ladder correctly.
Ensure your ladder is long enough; as a rule of thumb, it should reach from the eaves to the peak of the roof ridge. Position your ladder by placing the wheels on the roof and the hooks facing upwards – this will allow you to slide the ladder into place.
Extend the ladder to the desired length and lock the safety clips in place. Once firmly in position, you can flip the roof ladder over and fix the hooks over the peak. Give the ladder a slight tug to ensure that it is indeed secure, and you’re ready to go!
If you need to access the roof of your building, we'd definitely recommend a roof ladder as the best tool for the job. Here at Ladders UK Direct, we supply a wide range of roof access ladders that are ideal for both domestic and commercial use.

Do I have to use a roof ladder?
While those ridge hooks do give you a bit of extra safety during roof work, there's no rule that says you must use a roof ladder in any specific situation. As long as you follow the Health & Safety Executive's ladder safety guidelines, you should be able to work safely using a standard extension ladder.
