An extension ladder is a leaning ladder consisting of two or more sliding sections. The separate sections can be adjusted to extend the ladder to the required height.
Unlike a step ladder, an extension ladder can't support itself. So you'll need to lean it against a wall or another surface - make sure the surface you use is strong enough to comfortably support the ladder.
